Thought you had heard the last of us, did you? Well, your favorite art rock collective from Taiwan is back in black—and red—with a new lyric video for “Rice King”! Potentially offensive to virtue signalers and online scolds, the song is the opening track on our most recent album No Cure for the Princess Disease. Imagine AC/DC fronted by Muddy Waters—if Muddy Waters had an Asian fetish—and you’ll understand. Let us know what you think!
Where have [ai] been?
As you may or may not have noticed, our last “monthly” update was sent in July (insert scandalized emoji here). Brother Number One Mark Will has been very busy with his own newsletter—to which you should definitely subscribe!—and there has not been much to report. Nevertheless, work on the remix of No Cure for the Princess Disease has been steady and consistent. Mastering is almost done and we hope to release the remix album—Still No Cure for the Princess Disease—by the end of the year. More on that soon. In the meantime, have a listen to the original album on Spotify.
Dead City Radio [ai]
Did you receive a notice back in August about a new podcast called “Radio [ai]”? The original plan was to do an episode per week, but that is simply not feasible, given Brother Number One’s other activities. (Have you subscribed to Mark Will’s Substack yet, BTW? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.) We haven’t deleted the podcast entirely as we might want to do something with it later, but for now “Radio [ai]” is on hiatus. Sorry for the confusion, but what can [ai] say? It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Listen up!
[ai] 愛 The Black Angels and so should you. If you haven’t heard this great psychedelic band from Austin, Texas, check out their debut album Passover, their masterpiece Death Song, and/or this track from their latest release, Wilderness of Mirrors:
Killing Joke’s second eponymous album—the one from 2003 with Dave Grohl on drums—has lately been on repeat over here at [ai] HQ. The whole thing is worth careful study, but have a listen to the opening track, which sets the tone (and was later covered by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp, of all people):
Did you ever expect to be listening to a *new* song by The Doors in 2022? Well, neither did [ai], but hearing is believing:
Until next time . . . whenever that may be
[ai] will update you again when [ai] have something [ai]-related to report. Meanwhile, [ai] recommend that you subscribe to Brother Number One’s Substack for all things Mark Will. (You knew [ai] would say that, didn’t you?)
P.S. If you found the above allusion to “Dead City Radio” obscure, ponder this inspiring holiday message from WSB:
Rockin' tune with killer guitar work!
